On this Day

Arrival in Urgench is followed by a meeting with the local driver and a brief ride to Khiva, where luggage is stored at the hotel. After meeting the guide, explore Ichan-Kala, Khiva's walled inner town and open-air museum. The route includes Ata-Darvaza, Kunya-Ark, the madrassahs of Muhammad Rahim Khan and Muhammad Amin Khan, Kalta Minor, Tash Hauli Palace, caravanserai and trading domes, Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum, Islam Khoja Madrassah and minaret, Jami Mosque, and historic gates. The day concludes with free time and an overnight stay at the hotel.

On this Day

After breakfast at the hotel, depart from Khiva for Bukhara. The route travels through the enormous Kyzylkum Desert, showing shifting views and huge landscapes, either by road or train, depending on availability. Upon arriving in Bukhara, visitors are transferred to their hotel to check in. The rest of the day is free to relax and take in the atmosphere of this ancient Silk Road city. Bukhara's historic character, peaceful alleyways, and classic architecture provide a nice introduction before the guided sightseeing begins. Overnight accommodations are provided at the hotel in Bukhara.

The day begins with meeting the guide and embarking on a full walking tour of Bukhara's ancient center. Visits include the Lyabi Hauz ensemble with its madrassahs and Khodja Nasreddin monument, the Magoki Attari Mosque, Abdullakhan's Tim, and the Sayfuddin caravanserai, which is dedicated to handicrafts. The old trading domes Toki Sarrofon, Toki Telpak Furushon, and Toki Zargaron are visited, followed by the Ulugbek and Abdulazizkhan madrasahs. The tour continues to Poi Kalon Square and the Ark Fortress, which unveil legends and centuries of history. The hotel will be where you stay overnight.

After breakfast, the guide leads a countryside tour around Bukhara. The tour includes Sitorai-Mokhi-Khossa, the last emir's former summer house, which depicts regal life and dramatic past. The trek continues to the famous Bahouddin Naqshbandi Mausoleum, a significant spiritual destination that draws pilgrims from around the region. The final destination is Chor-Minor Madrassah, which has a remarkable four-towered design and was established in the early nineteenth century. After returning to Bukhara, you can spend the remainder of the day exploring or relaxing. The hotel provides overnight lodging.

Breakfast is followed by free time in Bukhara before departing for Samarkand. Along the way, a stop is taken in Gijduvan to visit a well-known pottery workshop. Guests may see the entire ceramic-making process, from molding clay on the potter's wheel to preparing natural paints, embellishing, drying, and fire. The museum hall houses rare pottery collections from Gijduvan and other parts of Uzbekistan. Optional hands-on master workshops in ceramic painting or suzani embroidery are available upon request. The journey continues to Samarkand, where you will check into your hotel and spend the night.

After breakfast, the tour begins with the Gur Emir Mausoleum, the final burial place of Amir Timur and his family. The journey continues to Registan Square, where you will see the Ulugbek, Sherdor, and Tilla Kori madrassahs, which are masterpieces of medieval architecture. A master class teaches how to make traditional Samarkand pilaf in a national residence. Other attractions include the Bibi Khanim Mosque, the Shahi Zinda Necropolis, Ulugbek's Observatory, and the crowded Siyab Bazaar. Dinner is scheduled at a local restaurant that serves traditional manti. Afterward, guests return to the hotel for a break and overnight stay.

Breakfast will be followed by a guided sightseeing tour of Tashkent. Highlights include Amir Timur Square, the Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, Independence Square with monuments and fountains, and the Earthquake Memorial, which commemorates the city's restoration. The tour proceeds to Khast Imam Square, which features old religious buildings as well as the Caliph's (Othman's) antique Quran. A visit to Chorsu Bazaar showcases traditional trading and local products beneath its unique blue dome. The wonderfully adorned Tashkent Metro stations are also visited. A transfer is subsequently organized to Tashkent International Airport for return to the home country.
