Set off on a thrilling journey through the misty forests of Volcanoes National Park in search of golden monkeys, a rare and lively species found only in this area.  Guided by park rangers, you'll travel trails through bamboo woods and get up close and personal with these athletic creatures as they leap from tree to tree.  Then, visit the Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village, where you will be greeted with traditional dances and songs.  Spend time with the villagers and learn about their talents, which range from basket weaving and ceramics to banana beer brewing.  Before returning to your lodge, take part in a cooking demonstration and enjoy a Rwandan lunch.

Today is dedicated to an amazing trip up Mount Bisoke, an active volcano in the Virunga mountains.  Trek through dense highland woods with skilled guides and porters, accompanied by bird sounds and the odd rustle of monkeys.  As you ascend, you will be treated to stunning views of Rwanda's volcanic environment before arriving at the summit's crater lake.  After admiring the tranquil splendor, return to the base and rest for lunch.  Return to the lodge to relax with a drink or spend a quiet evening surrounded by nature's soothing noises.

Depart Volcanoes National Park and head south to Nyungwe Forest National Park, home to one of Africa's oldest rainforests.  After arriving at Chimpanzee Lodge Nyungwe and freshening up, head to the Uwinka Visitor Center for a safety training before embarking on the canopy walk.  Suspended high above the forest floor, this walkway provides an exciting view of the jungle.  As you look out across the huge canopy, you may notice colobus monkeys or tropical birds among the chirping and rustle of leaves.  After your hike, return to the lodge to unwind and enjoy the peaceful forest atmosphere.

Rise early for an exciting walk to see chimps in their natural habitat.  Begin your tour in the Uwinka Visitor Center, where your guide will accompany you on one of the park's routes through the dense forest.  Listen for distant calls and keep an eye out for evidence of monkey activity as you walk through the lush greenery.  When you find them, spend some time examining their intriguing habits, which include playing, grooming, and conversing with one another.  Other primate species to look out for include red-tailed monkeys and olive baboons.  Return to your lodge to relax and reflect on the day's events.
