After breakfast, take a city tour of Almaty, starting at Panfilov Park, which is devoted to the 28 courageous soldiers memorialized by a magnificent monument. Visit the incredible wooden Zenkov Cathedral, one of the world's only nail-free constructions that withstood the 1911 earthquake. Continue on to the National Musical Instruments Museum, then to Medeu and the neighboring Shymbulak Ski Resort, which is accessible via cable car. Transfer to the airport for your trip to Tashkent. Upon arrival, meet your driver and go to the hotel for the night.

On this Day

Breakfast will be followed by a guided sightseeing tour of Tashkent. Explore Amir Timur Square, renamed in honor of the famous conqueror, as well as Independence Square, which represents the nation's past and future. Visit Khast Imam Square, which houses Caliph Othman's renowned Quran, and then explore the lively Chorsu Bazaar beneath its unique blue dome. The crater was discovered in 1971 by geologists who ignited escaping gas to prevent poisoning. It has been burning constantly since then. Known as the "Gate," it creates a stunning, fiery display amid the desert environment. The luminous cavern placed against the great emptiness provides a unique experience. Dinner is served in a traditional yurt camp, and you spend the night surrounded by the desert.

Breakfast at the yurt camp is followed by transfer to Ashgabat. Begin your tour with a visit to Nisa, the ancient Parthian capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to the enormous Turkmenbashi Mosque-Mausoleum, then observe Ertogrul Gazy Mosque's Ottoman-inspired architecture. Upon arrival, head to Ancient Merv, a UNESCO-listed archeological park that includes the Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum, Mohammed bin Said Mausoleum, and medieval "Kesk" castles. Visit the Merv History Museum to learn about the region's rich history along the Silk Road. After visiting the ruins of one of Central Asia's most important ancient towns, proceed to the Farab-Alat land border for passing procedures. Meet your driver in Uzbekistan and travel to Bukhara, where you will spend the night at a hotel.

Breakfast is followed by a walking tour of Bukhara's historical center. Visit the Lyabi Hauz ensemble, which includes the Kukeldash Madrassa and a statue of Khodja Nasreddin. After breakfast, begin touring in Khujand, once known as Alexandria Eschate, which marks Alexander the Great's furthest eastern reach. Visit Pushkin Square and Kamoli Khudjandi Square, Timur Malik's Fortress and the Sugd Museum, the Muslihiddin Memorial Complex, and the bustling Panjshanbe Bazaar. Explore Arbob Palace, which is historically significant as the site where Tajikistan declared independence and adopted its national flag. Transfer to the Oybek border for formal entry into Uzbekistan. When you arrive on the Uzbek side, meet your driver and head to Tashkent for hotel check-in and overnight.
