The day is dedicated to exploring Samarkand's most notable landmarks.  You visit Gur-e-Amir, Timur's spectacular tomb, which is one of the city's most beloved monuments, with its shimmering gold interior and blue-tiled façade.  The Registan's massive trio of Ulugbek, Shirdor, and Tilla Kari madrassas demonstrate centuries of architectural ability, with Tilla Kari's magnificently painted mosque ceiling standing out as an outstanding feature.  The massive Bibi Khanum Mosque exposes both its ancient grandeur and the severe consequences of its hasty construction through obvious fissures and continuing restorations.  A walk through Siyob Bazaar offers a colorful contact with local food, sweets, and Samarkand halwa. A flight to Dushanbe transports you to Tajikistan's capital, where you will be greeted and transported to your accommodation before embarking on a city tour.  The National Museum of Antiquities explains the region's history and houses the famous reclining Buddha in Nirvana.  A visit to the botanical garden gives a calm getaway among avenues of trees and well-kept vegetation, followed by time spent in the city's local market observing daily life.  Outside of Dushanbe, the remains of the 18th-century Hissar Fortress, replete with two madrassas and a mausoleum, serve as reminders of the area's historical significance.  You return to Dushanbe for an overnight stay.

A picturesque trip to Iskanderkul Lake transports you deep into Tajikistan's Fan Mountains, to one of the country's most recognized natural wonders.  Surrounded by legends and dramatic scenery, the lake is located at a high altitude and provides excellent photo opportunities.  The excursion includes a walk to Snake Lake (Ko'li Mor), a serene location surrounded by mountains.  You also see the 38-meter "Fan Niagara" waterfall, which is accessible via a moderate walk down the river, adding another dimension of natural beauty to the experience.  After lunch at a guest home, the return ride takes you back to Dushanbe, where you may rest at your hotel.
