Itinerary – Sosbun Brakk Climb – 24 days
The itinerary for the climb is listed below.
Day 02: Fly to Skardu
On this Day
An early morning scenic flight from Islamabad to Skardu provides stunning aerial views of the Karakoram range, featuring peaks such as Nanga Parbat. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your accommodation and spend the day acclimating. The crew will coordinate supplies, porters, and climbing equipment. In the afternoon, you may have time to explore Skardu Bazaar or simply relax before embarking on the arduous drive into distant regions.
Day 03: Drive to Braldu Valley – Chakpo
On this Day
Today begins with a long jeep ride through the isolated Braldu Valley, following the Indus and Shigar rivers before entering untamed alpine territory. The road becomes rocky as you approach Chakpo (Chokpoing), the last populated settlement on this trip. Surrounded by magnificent cliffs and river gorges, you will camp near the settlement. This signals the change from civilization to expedition mode, as the squad prepares to walk across increasingly remote glacial terrain.
Day 04: Trek to Hoh Lungma
On this Day
The walk begins when you leave Chakpo and reach the Hoh Lungma valley, following tough routes through glacial streams and steep terrain. The terrain gradually transitions to alpine, with high peaks and scant vegetation. Porters accompany the party, hauling expedition loads while you hike at a consistent pace to aid acclimatization. Camp is placed in a lovely meadow or moraine area, where the mountains' solitude becomes more evident, and the sense of remoteness grows.
Day 05: Trek to Jusma (Sosbun Glacier)
On this Day
Today's hike includes crossing sections of the Sosbun Glacier, which necessitates careful stepping over ice and moraine. The trail goes to Jusma camp, which is located at the base of a spur connecting the Tsilbu and Sosbun glaciers. The landscape is stark and spectacular, with ice formations and neighboring peaks dominating the view. The team will set up camp and practice glacier travel methods as needed, preparing climbers for greater altitude conditions and more challenging terrain in the following days.
Day 06: Trek to Sosbun Base Camp
On this Day
You will continue your trip down the Sosbun Glacier, passing beneath the spectacular twin towers of Sosbun Brakk. The path crosses glacial terrain, crevasses, and rocky ridges. Base Camp is established at the spur between the South and North Sosbun glaciers. This serves as the major hub for the climbing phase, with tents, communication systems, and climbing gear organized for the next ascent.
Day 07–18: Sosbun Brakk Climb
On this Day
These days are dedicated to the ascent of Sosbun Brakk, which includes route planning, load ferrying, and acclimatization rotations between higher camps. Climbers gradually ascend the mountain, using fixed ropes where necessary and adjusting to altitude. Weather conditions are vital, and flexibility is required. The climb presents technical challenges, such as steep ice and rock portions. Summit efforts are conducted under good conditions, followed by a careful descent back to Base Camp.
Day 19: Trek back to Base Camp
On this Day
After finishing the climbing phase, climbers return from higher camps to Base Camp. This day allows for the dismantling of upper camps, retrieval of equipment, and safe regrouping. The descent gives the squad a sense of accomplishment as they reflect on their trek. Once back at Base Camp, it's time to recover, reorganize gear, and celebrate the expedition's accomplishments. The attention turns from ascent to safe return, signaling the start of the voyage back.
Day 20: Trek to Jusma – Nangmah – Hoh Valley
On this Day
The return walk begins as you return from Base Camp, passing through Jusma and on to Nangmah and the Hoh Valley. The descent appears to be easier, but it still demands careful navigation over glacial and rocky terrain. Familiar landscapes appear different upon return, providing new viewpoints. Camps are built along the trail, and the party gradually returns to places with more greenery and lower elevation, making the hiking conditions more comfortable after the strenuous ascent.
Day 21: Drive to Skardu
On this Day
From the Hoh Valley, continue trekking to the roadhead, where jeeps await the return trip to Skardu. The trek follows the rocky terrain through the Braldu Valley, providing last vistas of the isolated highlands. When you get to Skardu, you will settle into a hotel and resume your civilized lifestyle. A warm meal, proper rest, and perhaps a short walk through town provide a welcome transition after days in the wilderness.
Day 22: Contingency Day
On this Day
This day is set aside as a buffer to account for weather delays, airline disruptions, and prolonged climbing schedules. If unused, it can be used to relax in Skardu, visit neighboring sights, or recoup after the adventure. It enables itinerary flexibility and safety, which is critical for high-altitude treks in uncertain mountainous terrain. The team can also utilize this time to pack their equipment and make final preparations for their departure.
Day 23: Fly to Islamabad
On this Day
You will fly back from Skardu to Islamabad, with superb aerial views of the Karakoram range if the weather permits. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your accommodation and given time to unwind after the adventure. The evening might be spent reflecting on the voyage, exchanging stories with teammates, or enjoying the capital. This marks the end of the alpine experience and our return to metropolitan comfort.
Day 24: Fly to Home Country
On this Day
Following breakfast, you will be transported to the airport for your international departure. As you leave Pakistan, you'll remember the magnificent vistas, difficult climbs, and the unique experience of visiting the Karakoram Mountains. The expedition culminates with a sense of accomplishment and adventure after traveling through rural valleys and high peaks. Your return home concludes an unforgettable climbing excursion to Sosbun Brakk.
