Itinerary – Spordin Pass Trek – 12 days

The itinerary for the trek is listed below.

On this Day

An early morning trip to Gilgit provides stunning aerial views of the Karakoram peaks, including Nanga Parbat. When you arrive, proceed down the Karakoram Highway toward Karimabad in the Hunza valley. The tour includes breathtaking scenery, rivers, and high peaks. After arriving in Karimabad, you will check into your accommodation and enjoy panoramic views of Rakaposhi and Ultar peaks in the evening.

On this Day

After breakfast, take a thrilling jeep ride to Shimshal, one of the most secluded communities in the region. The rough Shimshal Road winds among cliffs and rivers, providing breathtaking views and a sense of adventure. After several hours, you arrive in the settlement, where you meet your hiking companions and check into a guesthouse. The evening is spent experiencing traditional Wakhi culture and preparing for the upcoming trip.

On this Day

The hike starts with a slow ascent through alpine territory as you leave Shimshal behind. Walking along the riverbanks and through open fields, you gradually gain elevation toward Zardgarbeen. The walk provides breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers, with occasional interactions with local species. After several hours of trekking, you arrive at the campsite at Zardgarbeen, where tents are set up. The evening is spent relaxing and acclimating beneath the great alpine sky.

On this Day

Today's journey takes you deeper into the high-altitude wilderness, toward the base of Spordin Pass. The landscape grows rougher, with rocky roads and glacial streams to navigate. Surrounded by towering peaks, the landscape becomes more dramatic. When you arrive at base camp, you settle into your tents and prepare for the hard pass crossing the next day. Early rest is vital for preserving energy for the ascent.

On this Day

This is the most difficult but rewarding day of the trek, as you cross Spordin Pass. The approach is hard and needs a steady pace, but the panoramic views from the summit are spectacular, exposing enormous glaciers and peaks in all directions. After spending some time at the summit, you carefully descend to Maidoor Camp. The trail down is as difficult but offers stunning scenery. Upon arriving, you rest and commemorate a significant accomplishment.

On this Day

The trip from Maidoor Camp continues across a variety of terrain, including grassy meadows, steep slopes, and glacial streams. The descent becomes more gradual, allowing for a more leisurely pace than in prior days. Along the walk, you may come across herders and grazing livestock, giving cultural depth to the journey. After a few hours of trekking, you arrive at Furzin Camp, where you spend the night and enjoy the serene surroundings.

On this Day

On the final day of hiking, you retrace a portion of the trail back to Shimshal hamlet. The descent is slow, providing an opportunity to reflect on the voyage while viewing familiar scenery from a new viewpoint. As you approach the settlement, the sight of cultivated fields and stone homes marks the end of the journey. Upon arrival, you rejoice with your team and take a well-deserved rest in a guesthouse.

On this Day

After breakfast, you continue your return travel by jeep to Karimabad in the Hunza Valley. Upon arrival, the day is spent exploring, including excursions to historic places including Baltit Fort and Altit Fort. You can meander around local bazaars, engage with the locals, and take in the breathtaking sunset views over the valley. The evening is spent relaxing in the hotel.

On this Day

Today, you return to Gilgit along the magnificent Karakoram Highway. The voyage provides one more opportunity to enjoy northern Pakistan's stunning landscapes, which include rivers, cliffs, and distant snow-capped peaks. When you arrive in Gilgit, you settle into your hotel and enjoy the afternoon at leisure. You can tour the local market or simply relax after a long drive, and prepare for your return flight the following day.

On this Day

You take a morning flight from Gilgit to Islamabad, with wonderful vistas of the Karakoram range if the weather permits. When you arrive, you will be transported to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for leisure activities such as shopping or touring in the capital. This buffer day also provides for potential flight delays caused by weather conditions in the northern zones.

On this Day

After breakfast in Islamabad, you will be taken to the airport for your international journey to return to your home country. Depending on your travel itinerary, you may have time to do some last-minute shopping or rest at the hotel. As your tour comes to an end, you'll have lasting recollections of the Karakoram vistas, the difficult Spordin Pass hike, and the rich culture of the Shimshal region.
