Itinerary – Moni La Pass Trek – 22 days

The itinerary for the trek is listed below.

On this Day

Participants will enjoy an early morning scenic flight from Islamabad to Skardu, with stunning views of the Karakoram Range. Weather permitting, the beautiful Nanga Parbat may be viewed on the route. Upon arriving in Skardu, participants will be transferred to their accommodation and have the remainder of the day at leisure. This provides time to unwind, enjoy the town, and psychologically and physically prepare for the upcoming hiking trip.

On this Day

The tour begins with an exhilarating jeep ride through the breathtaking Shigar Valley to Askole, the last populated village before entering the wilderness. The course follows the mountainous Braldu River, passing through breathtaking scenery and secluded towns. Road conditions may change, making the journey both exciting and unpredictable. Depending on the terrain, competitors may start walking before reaching Askole. The trek normally takes six to eight hours and provides an initial view of the rugged Karakoram region.

On this Day

The walk to Jhola begins once supplies are organized and loaded onto porters. The track runs across a wide valley and links to the massive Biafo Glacier, one of the longest glaciers outside of the polar regions. Participants will trek moraine terrain near the glacier's snout before descending to a lovely lunch site along the Korofon River. The trail continues along the Braldu River, crossing it over a bridge before arriving at the quiet campsite of Jhola.

On this Day

The walk continues along the Braldu River through a spectacular gorge flanked by towering rock formations. Participants will be treated to stunning vistas of Trango Towers and Cathedral Peak as they progress. The terrain can be dry and hot, necessitating adequate sun protection and fluids. Depending on the water level, multiple glacial streams may need to be crossed. By the end of the day, the trail ascends slightly away from the river, arriving at Paiju, the last campground with trees for many days.

On this Day

This day is dedicated to rest and acclimatization in Paiju Camp, allowing participants to adjust to the increasing altitude. Short acclimatization hikes to Paiju Peak Base Camp can assist in enhancing oxygen efficiency and prepare for future glacier treks. Meanwhile, porters will bake bread and organize provisions for the next few days on Baltoro Glacier. The tranquil settings, complete with views of nearby peaks, provide an ideal time to unwind, hydrate, and prepare for the more strenuous phases ahead.

On this Day

The expedition resumes with a tough but rewarding journey to the Baltoro Glacier. The terrain becomes rough, with many ascents and descents over stony moraines. Despite the strenuous trail, the panorama drastically improves, revealing prominent peaks like Trango Tower and Uli Biaho. After crossing into Liligo, participants will walk a rough trail along the glacier's edge. The day culminates at Khoburtse, where the camp is situated with stunning views of towering granite spires.

On this Day

Participants will travel across undulating glacial terrain, crossing minor side glaciers and enjoying increasingly dramatic mountain vistas. The legendary Trango Towers dominate the skyline, affording spectacular vistas every day. The trail gradually ascends to Urdukas, one of the most picturesque campsites on the trek, perched above the glacier. From here, panoramic views of the Baltoro Glacier and neighboring peaks provide a perfect backdrop for relaxation and photography near the nearby army camp.

On this Day

The route continues along the center of the Baltoro Glacier's medial moraine. Participants will encounter a bizarre scene of ice, rock, and towering peaks. To the south, the majestic Masherbrum towers over enormous ice formations and seracs. The hike entails steady walking over difficult terrain until arriving at Goro II, which is located at the junction of the Baltoro and Younghusband Glaciers. Temperatures drop dramatically here, and the night provides breathtaking vistas of the surrounding peaks.

On this Day

These are the most distant and adventurous days of the expedition, when hikers leave the main Baltoro path near Goro II and explore the secluded Biange Glacier region. They hike across rough glacier terrain, gradually ascending to base camp and then high camp, navigating crevasses, snowfields, and steep ridges. The highlight is the ascent to Moni La Pass, which offers amazing panoramic views of the Karakoram. This phase requires stamina and acclimatization, but it also provides hikers with a genuine sense of discovery and accomplishment.

On this Day

After successfully reaching the Moni La Pass, competitors continue their descent back to base camp. The return journey takes a similar route, allowing hikers to see the terrain from a different angle. Descending needs caution, especially on snowy or rough terrain. As altitude drops, breathing gets easier, and energy levels rise. When participants arrive at base camp, they can rest and celebrate their successful crossing while taking in the peace of the remote mountain surroundings.

On this Day

The journey follows the Biange Glacier back to the Baltoro region. Participants will once again cross glacier terrain, but the descent is less strenuous than the ascent. Familiar landmarks reemerge, providing a newfound respect for the landscape. After rejoining the Baltoro Glacier, the group proceeds to Goro II, where a camp is put up. The return to this site signifies a return to the main trekking route.

On this  Day

The descent continues along the Baltoro Glacier, retracing the route to Khoburtse. Participants will traverse via Goro I and Urdukas, enjoying the varied views of the surrounding peaks. The renowned Trango Towers appear once more, providing breathtaking views from various viewpoints. Although the trail is familiar, the return trip offers new visual and photography opportunities. By the end of the day, the gang arrives in Khoburtse, where they set up camp for the night.

On this Day

Participants move further down the glacier, gradually leaving the severe cold landscape behind. The path travels through Liligo before shifting to more stable terrain. As greenery returns, the difference with prior days becomes clear. Reaching Paiju feels refreshing, with trees and softer terrain providing relief after days on the glacier. The campground provides a calm place for hikers to rest, heal, and reflect on the high-altitude section of the walk.

On this Day

The track returns to the Braldu River, along a familiar route toward Jhola. The terrain is rather easy, allowing for a more leisurely pace. Depending on the water level, certain river crossings may still be necessary. Warmer temperatures and lower altitudes provide relief from the glacier environment. Upon arrival in Jhola, participants settle into camp, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and reflecting on their trek across the mountainous terrain of the Karakoram.

On this Day

On this day, participants finish the hiking phase by returning to Askole village. Before arriving in the settlement, the trek follows the riverbank and crosses a bridge. After lunch, jeeps will be available to take the group back to Skardu. The drive provides one more opportunity to experience the region's stunning beauty. Upon arrival in Skardu, participants check into their accommodation and take a well-deserved break after the strenuous excursion.

On this Day

This day is set aside as a buffer to account for any unexpected delays throughout the walk, such as weather or road problems. If not required, participants might spend this time exploring Skardu, visiting local sights, markets, or neighboring lakes. This flexibility ensures that the itinerary is stress-free and participants do not miss their return flights. It also offers a chance to unwind and reflect on the wonderful adventure through the Karakoram.

On this Day

Participants will fly back from Skardu to Islamabad, taking in one more aerial view of the spectacular Karakoram Range. Upon arrival, guests will be transferred to their hotel and given time to relax or tour the city. In the event of a flight cancellation due to weather, an alternative driving trip to Chilas may be arranged. Regardless of travel circumstances, the day is planned to enable a smooth transition from the mountains to metropolitan comfort.

On this Day

On the final day, participants will be transported to Islamabad International Airport according to their travel schedules. After breakfast and hotel check-out, the journey is finally over. This concludes an incredible voyage across some of the world's most remote and stunning locations. Participants leave with enduring memories of the Karakoram, having encountered both physical struggle and natural beauty on the Moni La Pass trek.
