Overview – Chumar Bakor Trek
The Chumar Bakor Trek in Nagar Valley is a strenuous hike through one of Hunza’s least-known mountain ranges. Starting in Karimabad, the route heads toward Sumayar Valley before hitting difficult alpine terrain. Trekkers pass across rocky slopes, mountain streams, waterfalls, and glacier vistas. Furthermore, the trek provides dramatic views of the upper Nagar region. The trail progressively climbs toward the seasonal gemstone mining region, which is located at a high elevation. As a result, appropriate acclimatization, fitness, and local advice are required during the trek.
The Chumar Bakor Trek also offers insight into Sumayar Valley’s gemstone legacy. The area is particularly rich in aquamarine, fluorite, and other mineral resources. Meanwhile, the distant location evokes a strong sense of wilderness and adventure. Trekkers may also encounter seasonal miners and learn about traditional mountain livelihoods. Furthermore, camping near the upper valley provides bright skies, tranquil surroundings, and an unforgettable wilderness experience. However, access is subject to weather, road conditions, and municipal permissions. As a result, the route is best suited to experienced hikers looking for a tough two-day adventure. Chumar Bakor, with its stunning beauty and cultural significance, remains a unique trekking experience in Nagar Valley.
