Day 02: Peshawar - Islamabad - Fly to Kabul

Travel from Peshawar to Islamabad through Taxila, where ancient Buddhist remains offer an intriguing peek into the region's history. We will fly from Islamabad to Kabul, Afghanistan's capital, and spend the night there.
Day 03: Explore Kabul
On this Day
Spend the day in Kabul completing necessary papers for the next journey. This process is now somewhat lengthy; but, if rules loosen in the future, time may be available to go forward sooner. Overnight stay in Kabul.
Day 04: Kabul to Bamian
On this Day
Drive across the middle mountains to reach the Hazarajat region's capital, Bamian. When you arrive, explore the slopes, which are lined with caves that used to hold Buddhist monasteries and carvings, vestiges of Afghanistan's Buddhist heritage. Overnight stay in Bamian.
Day 05: Bamian and Band-e Amir

Take an excursion to Band-e-Amir, Afghanistan's first national park and a highlight of the trip. The sparkling blue lakes, divided by natural dams, are steeped in folklore and look stunning against the austere surrounding mountains. Return to Bamian for the night.
Day 06: Travel to Chagcharan

Travel by road from Bamian to Chagcharan. The journey is long and difficult, with much of it on extremely rocky terrain, providing a real glimpse of Afghanistan's mountainous interior highlands. Overnight stay in Chagcharan.
Day 07: Chagcharan to the Minaret of Jam

Depart Chagcharan and travel overland to the Minaret of Jam, one of Afghanistan's most prominent UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Depending on the weather, the night could be spent sleeping beneath the stars near the minaret or in a modest local teahouse.
Day 08: Travel to Herat

Day 09: Discover Herat

Day 10: Travel to Lashkar Gah

Day 11: Lashkar Gah to Kandahar
