Itinerary – Zagar An Pass Trek – 11 days

The itinerary for the Zagar An Pass Trek is listed below.

On this Day

Today, you'll either fly to Chitral or drive through northern Pakistan's spectacular landscapes. The flight provides breathtaking overhead views of the Hindu Kush, while the drive traverses valleys, rivers, and mountain passes. Upon arrival in Chitral, you will check into your accommodation and unwind. The town's distinct culture and history provide a good introduction to the region you will be visiting in the next few days.

On this Day

After breakfast, you begin a scenic drive from Chitral to Chapali hamlet, which takes roughly five to six hours. Traveling down the Shandur Road, you will pass through Mastuj before turning left onto the Yarkhun Valley Road. The route features rocky scenery, traditional communities, and running rivers, providing a look into distant mountain life. When you arrive in Chapali, you settle into your campsite or local accommodation, surrounded by peaceful landscape, and prepare for the hiking section, which begins the next day.

On this Day

Your journey begins with a moderate hike from Chapali to Malo, which takes around three to four hours. The trail winds through lovely valleys and modest slopes, providing stunning views of the surrounding peaks and landscapes. Along the trip, you'll see little streams and traditional grazing grounds used by local populations. Before arriving in Malo, the route takes a right turn and then gradually shifts to the left. When you arrive, you pitch a tent and spend the evening relaxing in this tranquil and remote mountain area.

On this Day

An early start is crucial as you begin the difficult trek to Zagar Pass at 5,000 meters. After about an hour, the trail bends left toward the pass and increasingly steepens as the altitude rises. The climb tests your endurance but rewards you with beautiful panoramic views at the top. After crossing, the trail falls rapidly at Dedero Shal, necessitating careful footing. The entire trip lasts six to seven hours. When you arrive, you set up camp and relax after a long but rewarding day.

On this Day

Leaving Dedero Shal, you continue on a lovely road toward Haringal Shal, taking the left-hand track. The trek takes about four to five hours and is less arduous than the previous day, giving you time to enjoy the surrounding natural splendor. You'll pass through alpine meadows, streams, and open valleys with stunning mountain scenery. When you get to Haringal Shal, you set up camp and spend the evening relaxing in the pure forest and tranquil atmosphere of the high-altitude setting.

On this Day

Today's journey is another challenging but rewarding stage as you cross the Nazbar Pass at 5,000 meters. Starting early, you gradually ascend toward the pass, taking in spectacular vistas of glaciers and craggy peaks. Due to the altitude, the crossing needs stamina and cautious pacing. After reaching the summit, you descend to Shukan, where the terrain progressively becomes more accessible. Depending on the weather, the walk can last six to seven hours or longer. After another substantial mountain crossing, you arrive at your campsite and rest.

On this Day

The trek continues with a pretty easy walk from Shukan to Nazbar Deh, which takes approximately five hours. The trail descends through gorgeous valleys, eventually moving from severe high-altitude scenery to more populated places. After visiting Nazbar Deh, you will travel to Yasin Valley, which is noted for its cultural richness and natural beauty. When you arrive, you settle into your accommodation or campsite and take a well-deserved rest, enjoying the warmth and hospitality of the locals in this gorgeous valley.

On this Day

Following breakfast, you begin your journey from Yasin Valley to Gilgit. The road crosses via Gopis and connects to the major Gilgit highway. This tour provides a final opportunity to experience the region's different landscapes, which include rivers, mountains, and tiny communities. When you arrive in Gilgit, you settle into your accommodation and unwind after your journey. The town offers modern conveniences as well as a relaxing atmosphere in which to unwind after your trip.

On this Day

Today, weather permitting, you will fly from Gilgit to Islamabad. The flight is brief but spectacular, with stunning vistas of some of the world's tallest peaks. Upon arrival in Islamabad, you will be transferred to your hotel and have the rest of the day at leisure. You can choose to explore the city more, shop for souvenirs, or unwind after your mountain adventure. This day represents the transition from the remote environment to metropolitan comfort.

On this Day

On your final day, you will prepare for your international departure. After breakfast, you are transferred to Islamabad International Airport in accordance with your travel itinerary. As you depart Pakistan, you will carry wonderful memories of the Zagar An Pass trip, including breathtaking scenery, difficult mountain crossings, and cultural encounters. The tour ends with a sense of success and respect for the natural beauty and distant locations you discovered on this incredible experience.

Overview – Zagar An Pass Trek

The Zagar An Pass is one of northern Pakistan’s most lonely and rewarding high-altitude expeditions. This journey, which connects Chitral’s Yarkhun Valley with Gilgit-Baltistan’s Yasin Valley, offers unparalleled remoteness. Furthermore, it travels through two beautiful passes above 5,000 meters, Zagar An Pass and Nazbar Pass. Trekkers encounter breathtaking scenery, alpine meadows, glaciers, and pristine valleys. In addition, the path travels past traditional Wakhi and Khowar communities, providing ample cultural opportunities. As a result, this walk is excellent for experienced hikers looking for both a challenge and authenticity.

Furthermore, the trek offers a genuine off-the-beaten-path experience with few people and breathtaking natural scenery. Every day brings new landscapes, ranging from lush valleys to rough alpine regions. As a result, trekkers enjoy ever-changing views and spectacular panoramas. However, due to the high altitude, appropriate acclimatization and physical fitness are required. The ideal trekking season lasts from June to September, with safer passes and steadier weather. Overall, this journey is a top excursion in Pakistan’s Hindu Kush region, combining thrills, seclusion, and cultural richness.
