Itinerary – Ganto La Trek – 08 days

The itinerary for the Ganto La Trek is listed below.

On this Day

Travel from Islamabad to Skardu by scenic aircraft over the Karakoram. The flight affords breathtaking aerial views of Nanga Parbat and its neighboring peaks. When you arrive in Skardu, check into a hotel and spend the day relaxing, organizing your kit, and confirming any permits or supplies you need. In the evening, visit the local bazaar to prepare for the forthcoming trip.

On this Day

Drive from Skardu down the Indus River to the Basha Valley, passing through Dassu or Bagicha. The trek includes rough alpine landscapes and insights into distant village life. Visit Hemasil near Chu Tron, which is noted for its natural hot springs. Set up camp or a simple village accommodation. In the afternoon, unwind and soak in the warm, pure waters of the hot springs, which will help prepare your body for hiking. Finish packing and get some rest before the next day's ascent.

On this Day

Begin trekking from Hemasil, passing a brook near Chu Tron before rising rapidly through grassy slopes and rocky portions. The trail climbs in elevation, providing expansive vistas of the Basha Valley behind you. After a hard climb of about 1,000 meters, reach the ridge above Chu Tron and head toward Matunturu. Camp in a picturesque meadow near shepherd's cabins, surrounded by alpine terrain. The evening is serene, with the opportunity to see local wildlife and spend a quiet night beneath the stars.

On this Day

Start early for the most difficult and rewarding day of the trek. Ascend steeply toward Ganto La, passing through rocky terrain and a persistent snowfield below the pass. Reaching the pass at 4,606 meters provides amazing views of the Basha and Tormik valleys. After a brief rest and photo break, cautiously descend the steep slopes into the Tormik side. Continue to Pakora, a lovely meadow campsite where you may unwind after a long but productive day.

On this Day

From Pakora, gently descend via picturesque mountain meadows and village trails to Harimal in the Tormik Valley. The stroll is pretty straightforward, allowing you to appreciate the scenery and engage with the residents. When you arrive in Harimal, meet your transport and drive back to Skardu via the connecting route. The journey provides a transition from rugged trekking terrain to civilization. Arrive at Skardu in the evening, check into your hotel, and get some well-deserved rest.

On this Day

Return to Islamabad by flight or road, depending on weather and availability. The aircraft offers a swift and scenic return, while the road trip gives visitors one final immersion in northern Pakistan's spectacular scenery. Reflect on the adventure, which included hot springs, arduous ascents, high mountain passes, and desolate regions. Arrive in Islamabad in the evening, marking the end of a rewarding and off-the-beaten-path hiking adventure across the Karakoram region.

On this Day

Your adventure closes with a transfer to Islamabad International Airport, where you will fly home. After days of walking through remote valleys and across high mountain passes, this final day concludes a memorable trip in the Karakoram. Depending on flight schedules, there may be time for a final tour of the city or last-minute shopping. You'll leave with vivid recollections of magnificent vistas, cultural exchanges, and the accomplishment of finishing the difficult Ganto La journey.
