Itinerary – Afghanistan Autumn Tour

The itinerary for the Afghanistan Autumn trip is given below.

On this Day

The voyage continues by land from Kabul to Bamyan, where the great Buddhist heritage of Afghanistan awaits. You will discover the remnants of the ancient Buddhas of Bamyan, gigantic statues carved into a cliff during the sixth century that were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001 but remain an incredible UNESCO World Heritage site to see. Later, you'll see Shahr-e Gholghola, also known as the metropolis of Screams, the frightening ruins of a once-thriving 12th-century metropolis, and Shahr-e Zuhak, the stunning Red City. After a day of touring, have tea on the hotel rooftop before supper in town and staying overnight in Bamyan.

On this Day

The morning begins with a trip around Bamyan's colorful market, where local goods and handicrafts highlight the region's culture. The highlight of the day is a visit to Band-e-Amir, Afghanistan's first national park, which features six deep blue lakes divided by natural travertine dams. Band-e-Amir, surrounded by stunning mountains and rich in Hazara culture, is today a World Heritage site and a popular tourist destination for Afghans and international visitors. After a full day seeing the lakes, you return to Bamyan for dinner and an overnight stay.

On this Day

The overland journey continues across the Salang Pass, one of Afghanistan's most picturesque mountain passes. There is time to pause for photos and refreshments along the way before arriving at Samangan, where you may visit the ancient 3rd and 4th-century earthen temples and stupas. Afterward, the road continues to Mazar-e-Sharif, where you will check in, eat dinner, and spend the night.

On this Day

Today is spent seeing Mazar-e-Sharif, starting with the magnificent Blue Mosque, also known as the Shrine of Hazrat Ali. The beautiful tile work, white marble courtyard, flocks of doves, and wide sky make this one of Central Asia's most photogenic and spiritually significant locations. Later, you'll travel to Charkent to visit the 12th-century defensive gate, which survived Mongol invasions and later fought Soviet and Taliban forces. The rest of the day is spent exploring the city's bustling street life before returning for dinner and an overnight stay in Mazar-e-Sharif.

On this Day

A short flight returns you to Kabul, where you may explore the lively bazaar on Chicken Street, which is famous for its handicrafts and souvenirs. You will then visit the Western Cemetery, a historic site associated with the Second Anglo-Afghan War that is currently cared for by a local father and son. A unique highlight is a visit to Haji Mirzaman, one of the last remaining Afghan box photographers, who will snap your portrait with his classic camera. Dinner and stay in Kabul.

On this Day

The experience continues with a flight to Herat, a city known for its Persian-inspired architecture. After settling into the hotel and enjoying a traditional lunch, the day will include a visit to the Masjidi Jami, or Friday Mosque, which was first erected by the Ghurid dynasty in the 13th century and then restored in the 15th century. The nearby tile factory, which still manufactures traditional tiles for restoration, provides an intriguing glimpse into Herat's workmanship. The day ends with an opportunity to visit the crowded Herat Bazaar before dinner and an overnight stay.

On this Day

Herat's ancient history is revealed through a tour of its majestic fortress, which dates back to Alexander the Great's entrance in 330 BC and has served as a military bastion for successive dynasties throughout the centuries. The tour continues with a visit to Guzargah Mosque and Puli Malaan, a historic arched bridge said to have been built by the Seljuks in the 12th century and named after two sisters, Bibi Hur and Bibi Noor, according to local mythology. If open, the Herat glass factory is another feature, demonstrating traditional glass-making techniques. Dinner and stay in Herat.

On this Day

The day begins with a visit to Goharshad's tomb and the Herat Minarets, relics of a once-great mosque and madrassa complex that was substantially destroyed in the nineteenth century. These magnificent structures are among Herat's most recognizable features. Later in the day, you'll fly back to Kabul to do some last-minute souvenir buying on Chicken Street. The day concludes with a farewell supper and overnight stay in Kabul.
