Itinerary – Bashkaro Pass Trek – 11 days

The itinerary for the trek is listed below.

On this Day

We will take you up from Islamabad in the early morning and begin our lovely drive to Kalam Valley. The journey takes us through beautiful valleys and attractive towns, with brief pauses in Madyan and Bahrain for drinks and sightseeing. We continue along the Swat River until we reach Kalam in the evening, where we settle into a pleasant hotel and rest for the night.

On this Day

Today promises adventure as we go by 4x4 jeep to the breathtaking Mahodand Lake. Along the journey, we stop at the picturesque Ushu Forest, which is famed for its dense pine trees and serene environment. After exploring the forest, we head to the lake, which is flanked by snow-capped peaks. Spend some time admiring the beauty before setting up camp beside the lake for an unforgettable overnight stay.

On this Day

The journey begins with a strenuous rise to Blue Lake (Neel Sar), which is located at roughly 3,500 meters. This strenuous 9-hour trip passes over harsh glacial moraines, alpine meadows, and rocky terrain. Along the route, spectacular views of towering snow-capped peaks and brilliant wildflowers keep you going. When we arrived, the tranquil turquoise waters of the lake were a welcome sight, and we set up camp for the night.

On this Day

After breakfast, we continue our hike from Blue Lake to Raj Makan Base Camp. The trail goes past the stunning Green Lake before gradually ascending to Raj Makan at around 3,700 meters. This 3-5 hour trip provides stunning views of lush grasslands and grazing regions frequented by local herders. When we get to the base camp, we pitch our tents in a peaceful alpine setting and prepare for the upcoming difficult pass crossing.

On this Day

Today is the most challenging but rewarding section, as we traverse the steep Bashkaro Pass. The hike is a difficult 10-15-hour journey up steep scree slopes and across a snowy mountain at high elevation. After reaching the summit at around 4,924 meters, we begin a cautious descent over freezing glaciers. The magnificent surroundings and sense of accomplishment combine for an unforgettable experience before arriving at our high camp for the night.

On this Day

We start our descent from the pass, negotiating difficult boulder fields and steep terrain to the chain of Kukush Lakes. The journey begins at around 4,000 meters and gradually descends over the course of around 13 hours. The austere, rocky environment contrasts nicely with the glistening waters. After a hard but rewarding day, we pitched a tent near the final Kukush Lake, surrounded by breathtaking high-altitude beauty and stillness.

On this Day

Today's trip is quite easy, as we descend for around five hours to Langar village. From there, we take a picturesque journey to Phandar Valley, which is famed for its rich flora and tranquil river vistas. Upon arrival, we explore the valley's tranquil beauty, connect with people if possible, and take a well-deserved break. An overnight stay in a guesthouse or hotel allows you to rest comfortably after the journey.

On this Day

After breakfast, we begin our journey to Gilgit via a lovely route through picturesque valleys and riverfront scenery. The excursion provides breathtaking vistas of mountains and traditional villages, providing insight into the region's culture and lifestyle. When we get to Gilgit, we check into our hotel and rest. Depending on how much time you have, you can visit local bazaars or relax in this mountain city's tranquil surroundings.

On this Day

Today, weather permitting, we will fly from Gilgit to Islamabad. The trip offers stunning aerial views of the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges, making for an unforgettable experience. When you arrive in Islamabad, you will be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for relaxation, shopping, or optional sightseeing, allowing you to recoup after your eventful walk.

On this Day

Following breakfast, you will be transported to the airport for your international departure. As your journey comes to an end, you will have wonderful recollections of the Bashkaro Pass hike, including the magnificent vistas, tough paths, and cultural contacts.
