Overview – Shila Broq Trek
The Shila Broq Trek provides a calm getaway into the lesser-known mountain scenery of Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan. The road leads to Sermik Valley, which is located southeast of Skardu along the Indus River. From there, hikers approach the Shila Valley, which is noted for its alpine pastures, mountain streams, and distant communities. According to local accounts, Shila Valley also has high-altitude lakes, including Koshoq Thang Lake, which is at an elevation of approximately 14,519 feet. As a result, the journey mixes scenic driving with satisfying hiking through peaceful terrain. Furthermore, the low visitor traffic makes for a more isolated experience than many famous Skardu trips.
A two-day Shila Broq Trek is suitable for those seeking nature, light adventure, and true Baltistan beauty. Trekkers can explore vast grazing areas, follow local mountain paths, and take in breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Meanwhile, seasonal streams and beautiful pasturelands provide variety along the route. Shila Valley is also known locally as a gateway to the Deosai side, emphasizing its topographical importance. However, trail conditions can vary because the area is still relatively undeveloped for tourism. As a result, local guidance is essential to ensure safe sailing. Overall, Shila Broq Trek offers nature, mountain culture, and stunning vistas near Skardu.
