Itinerary – Kundal Lake Trek
The itinerary for the trek is listed below.
Day 02: Ghazi Abad Palas to Maidan Valley
On this Day
Continue by local jeep from Ghazi Abad Palas to Maidan Valley, following narrow mountain tracks deeper into Palas Kohistan. The route includes scattered hamlets, terraced farmland, forested ridges, and classic village settings. Reach the trekking point near Kundal village, or a decent campground recommended by the guide. The remainder of the day is spent on porter arrangements, equipment checks, route briefings, and recuperation before the lengthy mountain walk to Kundal Lake.
Day 03: Trek to Kundal Lake
On this Day
Begin the trip toward Kundal Lake, also known as Kundal Sar, along a strenuous mountain trail above Maidan Valley. The road progressively ascends via forest parts, open slopes, pasture regions, and uneven ridgelines. Trekkers traverse natural water channels and go across remote alpine terrain with few amenities. After a long climb, reach Kundal Lake and set up camp near a safe lakefront area. The surroundings give isolation, highland scenery, and a true wilderness experience in Palas Kohistan.
Day 04: Exploration at Kundal Lake
On this Day
Spend the day visiting Kundal Lake and the surrounding alpine area. Walk around designated views, take in the lake from various angles, and experience the rugged alpine scenery of Kolai Palas Kohistan. The surroundings provide ideal conditions for photography, relaxation, and natural appreciation. Trekkers may explore surrounding ridges with guide permission, subject to weather and trail conditions. The day also aids recovery from the strenuous ascent and prepares the party for the return trip.
Day 05: Trek back to Ghazi Abad Palas
On this Day
Leave Kundal Lake and carefully descend the same mountain route to Maidan Valley. The trail requires strong footing across slopes, stream crossings, and rocky sections, especially while carrying backpacks. Continue through pasture meadows and forested sections, taking in the final views of the distant Palas mountains. Reach the jeep point near Kundal village or a similar appropriate settlement. After finishing the major trekking portion, continue by jeep to Ghazi Abad Palas and spend the night there.
Day 06: Return to Islamabad
On this Day
Begin the return journey from Palas to Islamabad via the Indus corridor and the Karakoram Highway. Pass via Pattan, Besham, Battagram, and Mansehra, leaving the isolated valleys of Kohistan behind. The route provides diverse views of rivers, cliffs, villages, and mountain roads. Short breaks may be made for lunches, refreshments, and route checks. Arrive in Islamabad with recollections of Kundal Lake, Maidan Valley, and the lesser-known alpine splendor of Palas Kohistan.

Overview – Kundal Lake Trek
The Kundal Lake Trek (Palas Kohistan) is a wild alpine excursion in Kolai, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This secret lake is located above Maidan Valley, between U/C Sharaid and V/C Kundal. As a result, the journey feels wild, serene, and very local. The route usually begins in Islamabad and continues to Ghazi Abad Palas. From there, a jeep route goes to Maidan. After that, trekkers walk through difficult mountain terrain for seven to eight hours. Along the trip, forests, streams, mountains, and grazing slopes provide a strong Himalayan experience.
Furthermore, the trek is great for those seeking unspoiled beauty in northern Pakistan. Unlike overcrowded trekking paths, the Palas Kohistan trail provides isolation, raw landscape, and true village culture. However, the walk necessitates good fitness, local assistance, and adequate sleeping preparations. Weather can change suddenly, so proper planning is essential. In addition, the location provides visitors with fresh air, stunning vistas, and peaceful mountain views. As a result, Kundal Lake is ideal for adventurers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts. It is a unique journey for people seeking an authentic, offbeat Pakistan experience.
