Overview – Hon Pass Trek (Hunza)
Hon Pass Trek (Hunza) – Day Trip from Karimabad provides a challenging high-altitude experience over Central Hunza. The trek begins in Karimabad and climbs beyond Baltit Fort to the breathtaking Ultar Gorge. First, hikers traverse steep mountain roads beside traditional irrigation channels and harsh terrain. The trail eventually leads to Ultar Meadows, a picturesque pasture beneath the majestic Ultar Sar range. From there, the ascent continues via rough scree and exposed hills to Hon Pass. At around 4,200 meters, the pass rewards muscular hikers with breathtaking Karakoram views. Along the route, shifting perspectives reveal Karimabad, rocky cliffs, alpine pastures, and faraway glaciers.
Furthermore, the summit ridge offers expansive views of Hunza Valley and the neighboring snow-covered hills. From this elevated position, trekkers can see Rakaposhi, Spantik, Haramosh, Trivor, and a number of lesser-known summits. However, because of the continual rise and descent, this day trek is best suited for experienced, well-acclimatized hikers. Thus, high fitness, mountain confidence, and careful footing are required throughout the journey. The return route takes the same path through Ultar Meadows and the tight gorge. As a result, this walk combines tough hiking, breathtaking alpine scenery, and great mountain photography into one unique Hunza adventure.
