The Yunz Sar Passu Trek offers a picturesque hike across Upper Hunza’s rocky surroundings. The path begins in Passu and climbs toward Yunz Valley, which lies between the Passu and Batura glaciers. Trekkers can experience magnificent glacier views, exposed mountain slopes, and panoramic views of the Karakoram Mountains along the way. Furthermore, the loop mixes adventure, seclusion, and beautiful views, making it an ideal day hike from Passu.

Day 01: Passu – Yunz Sar Trek – Passu
Begin the trek from Passu settlement, then follow the trail to the Batura Glacier approach. Continue across rough terrain, gradually ascending toward Yunz, where expansive views of Passu Peak, Batura Peak, and the surrounding Karakoram ranges await. Explore the high grassland and glacier-side terrain, pausing at natural locations for photos and rest, before returning to Passu. The return hike provides different viewpoints across the moraine, barren slopes, and magnificent mountain scenery, capping off a memorable hiking experience in Upper Hunza.

The Yunz Sar Passu Trek is a rewarding one-day hike across Upper Hunza’s stunning alpine environment. Starting in Passu, the trail eventually departs the rural environment for harsh terrain near the Batura Glacier approach. Along the journey, trekkers will encounter rocky terrain, open slopes, and breathtaking vistas of the Karakoram mountains. The trail also offers stunning views of Passu Peak, neighboring hills, and glacier-shaped valleys. Because Passu lies adjacent to main hiking routes, this climb is an ideal introduction to the region’s high-mountain environment.
As the trek progresses, the terrain becomes wilder, more tranquil, and more expansive. Before returning to Passu, hikers can take in glacier-side scenery, natural views, and expansive mountain vistas. The path also reflects Upper Hunza, where Wakhi villages have long relied on seasonal pastures near Batura Glacier. Although the trail is ideal for a day trip, some sections may traverse loose moraine and uneven mountain terrain. As a result, proper footwear and local coaching can increase both comfort and route awareness.
